all they have to do is declare statehood and they would have a state but that wouldn't solve their dilemma, which is that their land is being stolen out from under them.

the reason they don't is they think this strategy is working because the west feels sorrier for their own people than they do.

and they are right, that is a weakness. always attack the weak point. that's what is happening while the west cannot attack their weak point without looking even worse in the eyes of their own population.

golan heights is legally occupied -- it is actually occupied, as there has been no peace with syria. what is illegal about golan hieghts is the attempted annexation with the golan heights law without first having a peace agreement with syria. but there's nothing "illegal" about occupying land

Do you have a point at all? All I can draw from your post is that I was incorrect to call it occupied, when in fact it has been annexed. If that is really all you wanted to point out, fine, I change my statement to refer to illegally annexed land. But just to be clear, their occupation would also be illegal, as they have engaged in civilian transfers and built settlements. That is the case even if they never extended Israeli law over the Heights.

Would you care to address that point, now that you've so thoughtfully corrected my terms?

He is saying it is incorrect to call it "illegally occupied" since no one has said the occupation of Golan Heights is illegal. The court findings that you cited don't state that the occupation is illegal either, only the attempted annexation prior to coming to terms with Syria over the disputed land. So, maybe you should go back and read your own sources. The settlements are illegal because the land is not annexed and therefore not part of Israel. You can legally occupy an area and not build settlements. What they are doing on the land can be illegal even if the occupation is not.
