However the counter argument goes to those who refused to dope. Back in the 70's Australian and American swimmers were being slaughtered in the pool by drugged hulks from East Germany. Did we let our standards slip or did we decide to stick to our principles. And it is tough on those clean competitors, many should have been world champions but were not. The upside was these swimmers and coaches continued to push technique and ability and found ways to swim faster than any clean person before them, and in some instances even beat the cheats.

Not that he is alone in using steroids or whatever by any means. My question is how much does it really add to the final performance. Imo he got those titles by natural ability and practice, practice practice practice. Taking steroids is not going to make the average joe a pro at anything.
