How is this qualitatively different from killing them on the battlefield, or supporting military actions against them?
I prefer action to tough talk. And killing prisoners isn't showing resolve. It is showing weakness.

In 1945, the world respected the United States of America. Yes, fear is a form of respect. Over the decades we've lost that. I'm mixed on the killing of these hostages. My first thought is that the Americans that have been beheaded made the conscious decision to travel there knowing that the US State Department advised against it. Pretty much means, you knew that things could suck for you. On the other hand, it is like poking a bear with a stick. You may get a few pokes in but eventually the bear is going to get mad.
When I read of Jordan's threat, I thought that it was good to see a nation fight for this prisoner of war. This pilot is a POW. Now, on the other hand, tourists, journalists and contractors visiting those areas? Not quite the same.
