Powerball Lottery Raised to $485 Million

We used to do a lottery pool at the office. Meh. I'd rather blow money on fish tacos.

I manage to buy a ticket every couple of years or so, stars have to align right for me to even think about it and be in a store that sells tickets. I actually have thought it might be more of a curse than a blessing to win that kind of money.

It's a curse for dumb people.

My favorite is when the lottery is "only" at around $30 million or so. Or back when it used to start our at $1 million. I loved to hear people in line say, "Nah - I'm gonna wait until it gets higher." As if they could afford to be sniffing at a million bucks!

That said, I ONLY play the day AFTER a big jackpot is awarded. Yeah, the payouts are smaller (see above - I'm fine with "only" a dozen million or so). But, far fewer people play the week after that I'm much less likely to split the jackpot with anyone.

That said - I haven't bought a ticket in well over a year.

It's worth $6 per week to me for the chance to win big bucks. It's a $312 annual investment, that could pay off millions but will most likely not.
