Having spent a great deal of time on this subject--years, really, when you look back at 9/11 if anything it called for a more targeted, human-based intel approach than the massive, Cold War era technological monster we were then employing.
So what did we do? We created an even LARGER bureaucracy (with Homeland Security) and decided that the best approach was to spy on everybody so we'll find that needle in the haystack. Brilliant.
And just to make sure everybody knows we're not profiling, toddlers, grandma and that sorority girl get pulled aside at the airport while the shoe bomber and underwear bomber went undetected. Sounds like a plan!
Oh yeah and drone strikes where if the terrorist is standing with 40 people we'll take out the other 39 to get him.
