I understand your position that the UN forces are impotent (how awesome it would be if we could send in the 932nd unicorn brigade, I would be all for that!), but you must ask yourself how much this impotence is inherent to the UN and how much is enforced impotence by nations such as Russia and the U.S.
I am very against the French having anything to do with Syria, just as I was against their wonton bombing in Lybia (the first Western power with confirmed civilian deaths). Turkey, that's interesting.
Part of the Syrian problem is that intelligence agencies didn't seem to know what the hell was going on in Syria. They've been caught with their pants down around their ankles again. What a shame. Could likely have easily taken out Assad and his supporters early on.
