Our current leadership has plenty of political sway and has used it exclusively to enrich their backers. Our "two party" system is designed specifically to always facilitate this turn of events, regardless of which party is currently "in power". The politics of individual identify are irrelevant and serve only as a distraction for the public, in much the same manner as celebrity gossip publications or mass sports spectacles do. "Bush" or Obama" the result will always be the same as far as maximizing the corporate bottom line goes.
Part of what Snowden has done is expose this hypocrisy and how it seeks to consolidate its power using advanced technology. So his campaign, if it is to be, will have to be conducted from exile.

Sigmund Freud defined four parts of a psyche; the id, the ego, the superego and the stratego. The Stratego being the highest form of morality and scientific thinking.

He didn't vote against Iraq. He wasn't even a senator at the time. He voted against some funding stuff years later...but that was way past the point of meaning anything.

But in all seriousness, you can't be President and have principles. Even if do when you start out, they will get ground out of you on your way to the top. It is literally impossible to get to that level without compromising just about everything to the job.
