Human society is totally defined by the social relations that are it's mode of production. In the current mode each individual is yoked to a great wheel of woe and they must all go in the same direction while they are pushing that wheel. If someone wants to do something different, well that is what war is all about.

A truly decentralized, much smaller, population utilizing advanced yet sustainable production in quantities sufficient to meet it's needs and provide the individuals in the society the liberty to act as they choose for themselves is the direction the human race should be headed imho.

All we are currently doing is creating a bigger and bigger problem. One that is increasing exponentially in fact. Our main product in the current mode of production has been individual human beings. That definitely needs to be curtailed. If the population can be educated and share in the productive capacity of human society I think we could get the population down to a reasonable size in one generation. Maybe two. That should be our main concern, not which movie star has a porn vid out or whatever it is that interests people in consumer society where the most foolish whims are indulged if you can pay for them. Tens of billions of greedy self indulgent carnivorous primates will rapidly devour the earth and everything in it.
