I predict this is the beginning of a trend. Prosecutions for police misconduct will become commonplace in the near future. The days when law enforcement agencies can routinely get away with murder are over.
These are the people that society should be keeping under the microscope, and I expect that to retain a semblance of legitimacy and respond to the slew of lawsuits using undeniable instances of LEO wrongdoing recorded as digital evidence most local governments are going to be forced to reign these guys in somehow. Constant electronic surveillance and direct supervision seems to be the easiest way.
