If we would have have had appropriate funding and motivation to research alternative sources of energy when the first crisis hit (I remember those gas lines too btw) things would be very different now.

Where would be now if we would have taken that course instead of the one we did choose, which was militarily securing sources of carbon fuel in the Middle East?

No 911, no global warming, no impending war in the Middle East. Man, we f**k up bad.

I don't think you understand the point of the article or my point in posting it. It's not meant as a personal attack toward you it is an attack on a human activity that needs to be curtailed for the good of us all.

What gadgets an individual uses is completely irrelevant in relation to the perspective of the global mode of production, which can be objectively shown to be destroying the environment. To continue to develop these hydrocarbon resources in the face of that knowledge is comparable to tobacco companies continuing to market cigarettes to children even though they were aware that they caused cancer and were addictive.

That's not an adequate excuse. Just wait until they start strip mining all those oil shale sites in the name of energy independence. It will be an environmental catastrophe but that is the path we will take because thats what the big guys are set up to take advantage of and exploit. They think it is too expensive to rethink and retool.
