The "more guns=more murders" argument is basically a one size fits all proposal that doesn't take into account the wide range of cultural and environmental variables that contribute to violence rates.

I'm not surprised it doesn't hold up under serious scrutiny.

The problem with these studies is that they don't look at the chronology. Let's say an area experience so much gun violence that authorities had to enforce stricter gun control. The study will only run the regression and show that high gun control is correlated with high gun violence and conclude that there should be less control.

These kinds of studies will lead to the conclusion that more doctors result in more illnesses, because there is a high correlation between the number of doctor visits and the number of illnesses. Therefore the conclusion is to reduce the number of doctors if we have sick people.

In multiple studies I have read in the past , it is learned that if one subtracts the gun crimes of the African American and illegal immigrant resident population from the overall figures , then the US is found to have one of the lowest capital murder rates in the world . No , I can't sight those studies at this time because I just re-registered on this forum after a years long absence and I'm still struggling to type and operate this new windows8 atrocity . I'm not blaming one group or another with bad intent , just reporting the facts . The facts would seem to indicate that CULTURE , thus upbringing , religious or ethical world view , or just common personal motivation might be the deciding factor in how one or many will react to circumstances while armed . I carry one or many weapons on my person at all times , I'm rather old , have lived through many extreme circumstances , and have yet to murder , kill , wound , or otherwise discomfort any human individual to date ; though I have been known to stop many who had ill intent from proceeding with there improper activity under many and varied circumstances . To sum up this rambling dissertation , An armed society is , indeed , a polite society , depending on the general cultural gestalt .
