Assuming the regime that replaces Assad is friendly with the US and doesn't despise Israel, than sure, that makes sense.

Iran is never going to let us influence who the new regime is. We already took out their main foil in the region--Iraq--and if that blunder wasn't enough, an even bigger blunder here will be to think they're going to just let us come in and co-opt their BFF in the region.

In fact, if we do attack, mark my words: some huge group of civilians will somehow end up in the wrong place at the wrong time when a bomb hits and it'll be all over the world media, the pictures of those innocent Muslim civilians we just blew away.

We're getting our ass handed to us in this region and in Afghanistan. It is time to step back, focus on fixing things at home and stop trying to gallop around the world as if we're the awesome, allegedly-loved superpower from 50 years ago.

It is impossible for the US to lose against conventional forces, and if the US stopped caring about civilian casualties or treating your prisoners with dignity, it would be impossible to lose against a non-conventional force as well.

The scary part is that your dominance in the military world is going to ensure that soft targets - the people the military is supposed to defend - are the number one victims. In essence, you'll lose when a suit case nuke goes off in a major city, while attacks are simultaneously waged on certain infrastructure (like the power grid). Only when Americans can't afford to fight anymore will you ever see a change.
