My Spanish used to be pretty decent (I say that as an American mind you) when I lived in Spain. Now it kind of sucks because I rarely use it, even though I live in Texas. I picked up a bit of a Spanish accent when I learned the language and will get funny looks when I use it back home. Especially from my wife, who speaks Spanish. Oh the shit she's given me....
Japanese: enough to get into and out of trouble and leave a smile on the face of the locals.
Italian: enough to get into and out of trouble with a neutral reaction from locals.
Russian: enough to get into trouble and get my ass kicked
Croatian: enough to leave really confused looks on the faces of the locals till I remember most can speak English
