Well, its kinda an unwritten "thing" with forums that active members in a forum are given a little more respect by forum members. It's not that important, but it's like being "the new guy" at work. Nobody wants to be that guy. On a boating forum I'm a member of they celebrate milestones like 10,000, 20, 25, and 50K posts. One guy is at over 60,000.

Post count doesn't matter, and considering Comrade and I have like 20,000 posts between us, that's saying something.

What matters is keeping this community under the control of people who have spent so many years here. To sell it to some dude who we don't know because he says it'll do better, despite the fact that his company has ZERO successes under its belt, is lunacy. Even if he did have a proven track record, I'd still be opposed.

If Ueber decides to sell, I'll personally counter-offer 125% of whatever chris offers.

yeah post count really doesn't matter. i think most of us would agree on that. what you think of as respect is just us interacting in a manner that 8 years of proximity will naturally result in.

i just dislike the idea of PCF being bought, just to be "merged" aka destroyed and co-opted by another forum with a different schtick/agenda. i mean, there's nothing inherently wrong with that goal in mind, as it's a wise business move, i just find it a little disingenuous that we're to believe that's not what the point of this "merger" would be.

also, let's look at the fact that the potential buyer, chris, owns four forums. assuming they aren't all being "merged" i imagine the goal of owning them is to grow some sort of brand/network. and maybe this is just my crazy communist ideas coming through but i don't feel that some sort of capitalist growth agenda is going to be healthy in any way for the continuation of this community.
