I would welcome new members, even if they weren't at the intellectual level that we have here. My opinions won't change, but I do get sick of making the same arguments and hearing the same replies. I don't expect any of the current members to change their opinions, either. But, it'd be nice to be able to argue with someone new and different.
The name, it's got to stay. If the site grows, there are hundreds, perhaps thousands, out there that would instantly recognize "political crossfire" (hyphen or not) and immediately enroll to see what's up.
It seems that some people are worried about mods with a political slant that abuse their power. That's fairly easily remedied. Have moderator elections every year. If a mod abuses power (not to the extent where an admin can remove him/her, but enough to make people unhappy), they can be voted out of office.
I like the rule that initial posts have to have an article and substantive opinion. I didn't at first, but it weeds out frivolous posts.
As for the concern that people will simply post stupid talking points, well, that's our responsibility, as posters, to regulate. Someone posts something about Obama not being a citizen, and it's up to us to shoot them down.
Of course, there could always be a separate and private section of the site, if we want, that is just for typical PCF-type posts. The kind of place where, if we want to get away from the above posters, we can go and have these same discussions.
