My name is a reference to the Book of Enoch (and the character therein), a book of scripture excluded from the Bible. The Book of Enoch describes, among other things, the mating of angels and humans (which produced a hybrid race called the Nephilim), the teaching of angelic magic and astrology to humans, and a parable of the angels pleading with Enoch to intercede on their behalf to God. The angels were punished by God for the teaching of angelic magic to humans, and Enoch was tasked to be the mediator between the angels and God in this punishment.
I chose the name because I find the Book of Enoch to be the most fascinating (non-canonical) book of Christian mythology. Though not a Christian myself, I thought the story showed an interesting history to both the Christian decision of what to include, and what not to include, in the Bible as well as an insight in to ancient Jewish mysticism. In particular, the fact that Enoch spoke to God directly appealed to me. I've been a long-standing critic of organized religion, wherein one needs to commune with a priest/rabbi/minister/imam in order to commune with God. I believe that organized religions are little more than corrupt and power-hungry institutions and that it is up to each person to find their own reasons to believe or not believe in the Divine.
