Ok, and what good does that do when 27% of guns sold through FFL dealers, and thus to people without criminal records, winds up using the guns in a crime within 2 years?

I can only presume dwbh is talking about the federal long gun registry, which has since been abandoned.
In terms of confiscation of guns, perhaps he is talking about when RCMP officers confiscated unsecured guns from flooded homes in Alberta, in order to prevent them from being stolen by criminals. Those guns were returned to owners who provided a license. Those who couldn't weren't charged, but they didn't get the guns back, and no, they weren't compensated.
Or he's talking about how the RCMP confiscated weapons that were illegal and coming across the border.
