A serious proposal to cut defense spending

Eh, I think the bidding process for most government projects, especially defense, will become much more competitive. Austerity has that effect.

I'm sure there are some jobs in the military that are cheaper to contract out.. But security and guarding bases and installations can't be one of them.. The government is already PAYING the soldiers, and spent millions training him.

I don't see how spending billions more to hire outside people to do the same job you are training and paying a soldier to do can be cheaper.

Am I the only one who finds it patently absurd that soldiers cannot guard their own bases? Really? They can't handle that?

cut pay? no, cut jobs. we need to eliminate personnel. marines should be shrunk drastically, army should be shrunk, navy should be shrunk a tad. there are just too many soldiers for a country that isn't at constant threat of conventional warfare.

we need fighters. i think it's stupid to gimp our ability to scramble swarms of fighters. well, until they develop an "inexpensive" hypersonic SAM missile we do,

but yeah we need fewer carriers and boats that are less espensive. phalanx systems can't stop modern anti-ship missiles. if a conventional war broke out with any country that has those our navy would get demolished.
