Is feminism becoming an obsolete movement?

If someone tells me they are a feminist I just immediately tune them out. I hate associating with politically correct nazi's who think every joke is some secretly veiled rape threat and that us average joes get together each week to plan how to shackle women to the home for another week. I think there is still a need for feminism but the movement is essentially 10% lunatics leading 90% of women around. Similar to how there are still serious racial issues in the US, but anyone who identifies as a Jesse Jackson supporter will never have anything intelligent to say and should be ignored. Most self-proclaimed feminists either 1) want female superiority and not simply equality or 2) want feminism do deal with personal issues like low self esteem or guilt at not being home for your child. Feminists also have this silly habit of treating women like children who must be protected at all times, instead of independent creatures who can make decisions for themselves.

Most issues regarding feminism will solve themselves in the next 50 years.

Feminism has a place in modern American, but it's going to need to evolve if it wants to stay relevant (or become relevant again). As our society progresses towards gender equality and injustices against women become less obvious, more people will view feminism as an ideology that seeks supremacy rather than equality. Millennial women are already distancing themselves from feminism because they have not experienced the same sorts of discrimination their mothers did. Feminism will need to become more inclusive by working to end gender discrimination more broadly rather than focusing on women's issues. Women are still at a disadvantage in our society, so I understand why feminists are not interested in men's issues. If you think about it, helping men when they have the advantage would only make society less equal. It might seem counterintuitive, but I think proving that they oppose gender discrimination in any form will help them reach their goal more quickly.

Custodial and penal imbalance that favors mothers (see what I did there?), sexual assaults on men perpetrated by other men AND women (including female-on-male rape, which is not just 'incidental'), and the future education of boys are really the issues driving men away from feminism. Marginalizing men is the same mistake the radical black power movements made in regards to middle-class whites: you are trying to enact change that will affect everyone. You can't ever exclude a group from that reference unless that group is inherently criminal or destructive (KKK, Christian fascists, anarchist bombers, globalist bankers, etc). Even then you should still try to reach out to their humanity. Everyone is loved by someone else.

Male unemployment is also a concern but it hinges more on the first and third motif described above: men don't want to enter imbalanced relationships anymore (pay for everything while she makes money) and they don't have the education background their female peers enjoy. Ironically, being in a healthy relationship is healthy for most men's pocketbooks. When you care about someone else - be it a woman or child or both - you take work more seriously. The idea dating a woman results in all of your paycheck going to her is actually pretty recent. Prior to the 1960s, men were working in high school (and often dropped out) so they supplied the expenses for dating.

I'm also of the opinion men should only have to cover the expense of an abortion if it's an accidental pregnancy outside of marriage or consent, but that's an opinion I'm willing to hold onto until later down the pipeline. It also may be irrelevant if the male birth control pill is subsidized soon.

Agreed. It’s more of a male perception than reality. That’s why I believe men are more productive members of society if they have kids or a partner to look after - not to necessarily pay for dates, but to ensure stability. Single men are fine letting themselves eat a ramen diet and playing the same video games over and over again. I’m sure the same is true of women, but the young female is already better off financially. In different realms men and women are their own worse enemies but try to blame the other gender for their competitive faults. Men will look down their noses at another man who lets his partner pay, and women will judge each other for not shaving their legs or wearing makeup - something most men are oblivious to.

Overall I would say men have a leg up in the professional world, especially in management. We'll see how it changes in the next 10 years as the younger 30 year olds mature into those roles. It's amazing how segmented some jobs still are, particularly physical labor and clerical labor. I attended a seminar in college for a typing job, and I was the only male out of 30 applicants. I felt like a girl in the engineering department.
