It seems to me that you are naturally very intelligent and a great critical thinker. On top of that you are well educated. Lastly you are a nice and good natured guy who doesn't have a tendency toward being judgmental of others. Plenty of religious people I come across are two of those things, but it's rare to encounter a religious person who is all three.

If I can be so presumptive as to speak for Bauce. Perhaps he is referring to the fact that you are a reasonable person, you at least try to support your positions with good reason and yet, with religion, you take the leap of faith and accept positions for which there is no good evidence and, in fact, the good evidence goes the other way. There is some cognitive dissonance there.

Then he misused the phrase cognitive dissonance. I agree that eynon is good people. He is the prefect example of the sort of religious person that I not only have no problem with, but with whom I can make common cause.

His private belief that Jesus rose from the dead is not compelling to me, but it also has no practical implications for the world: it doesn't cause harm or anything. We can have a dispassionate philosophical debate about it, but ultimately it is irrelevant to me.

I thought the cognitive dissidence you guys were going to point to was that fact that I'm a believer who enjoys some of the baser things in life...

as for the reasonable faith based belief thing (shrug) I dunno, the (liberal) Christian world-view seems to make the most sense to me. although I'm open to the fact I know a whole lot less than I know.
