I don't understand why we can't retask a lot of that industry to infrastructure because there's something we can't spend enough on right now.
Or renewable energy and vehicles powered by them, etc. We'll spend trillions to develop a laser to fry somebody but not to figure out how to run a car without using gas?

-In WW2 the Germans could produce enough to keep their war machine going. What stopped them was the allies blowing the hell out of their synthetic refineries.
