It appears to be random, honestly.
For instance, my wife owes a decent amount on her credit card. Nothing obscene, it's manageable, but we are talking about a couple thousand bucks. She pays on time but doubles up on the minimum payment to pay it down faster. She has never had a student loan or car payment. She has never had insurance. She had a couple late bill payments as well, I believe her gas bill when she was living on her own many years back.
Her score is like 715.
As far as I can tell, there is no algorithm other than randomly selecting people to f**k over.

FICO is giving your scores out free now right? I heard if you have discover and some other card they are going to start putting the score on your statement.

They are supposed to give me mine free at my credit union, but it doesn't work right and they don't seem inclined to fix it so I just went to Credit Karma, which is pretty cool btw
