Sweet. Where is this place? I need to buy a rocket launcher, some grenades, a Mosin Nagant, a .50 cal machine gun, and a few other things.

I could probably go ask the students at the local elementary school for some, since it would be a violation of their rights to take their arms away from them. They probably have some in their locker.

Probably a great place to drive that vintage Sherman tank (with operational turret, gun and .50cal machine gun) that I've been eyeing. Ain't no one going to honk at me in that thing!

You know, it would be interesting to see exactly how committed this guy is to him principle. What would happen if I called his office to schedule a meeting, then at the appointment time at the Sherriff's office, I brought my sawed-off shotgun and refused to part with it before entering the premises.

Or, what happens when the deputies pull over a car for speeding and the driver pulls out his .45. Do the deputies demand that he put it down when they start writing the ticket? If they do, that's a violation of his rights. And, I think we'll all agree that issuing a speeding summons in now way trumps the 2nd amendment!

As usual, the proper stance is in the middle. Yes, some current gun control laws may have gone too far. But, the vast majority of them are good. While it's debatable that one needs a semi-auto AR-15 for home protection or hunting, no one needs a flame thrower, grenade launcher, or chemical weapon.

FYI...it's interesting to putz around your state laws and see how they view sheriffs. For instance I'm pretty sure that the sheriffs in my own state can raise militias and impress local citizens into said militias in case of Zombie Outbreak or Russian invasion (wolverines!).

Also we have a long and proud tradition of sheriffs saying "PFFFFFFFFF!" to the law in the cause of liberty, from the Fugitive Slave Act to Prohibition right up to modern anti-drug laws.

Most authorities can do some crazy stuff in case of emergencies.

For instance, in case of a public outbreak of some SuperFlu or other contagious bug, the Fed has the right to:

- Force you to stay inside your house 24/7.
- Immediately imprison you and/or relocate you if you violate the curfew or are found sick.
- Force you to take whatever medicine or vaccination they deem necessary. If you don't, off to jail/detention camp.
- Forcibly take your children or other depended from you if they show signs of illness.

Governments can only do what they have the physical ability to do. There's no guarantee they will be able to do any of that in case of an emergency. My guess is for the most part they wouldn't. At best they will be able to guard a few things. They certainly aren't going to be going house to house in hazmat suits seizing people's children. lol

For one thing they don't have the resources or manpower to do such a thing. For another to what end?

they have about 1.5 million military personnel to do it. that's a lot of major urban centers covered. now let's add in national guard and police forces.
