That such an awful trend. As a recent college graduate, nothing made me want to drop out of college MORE than these high school teachers coming in and teaching a college class. They start taking attendance, forcing people to participate, calling your parents...it's like jesus f**k christ I thought I was finished with high school.
There are to many people who top out around a high school education who we push into college. When they drop out, we assume there is a problem, but have to ever considered the fact that half the population just probably isn't cut out for self directed intensive learning for 4 years? Don't ruin it for the rest of us by bringing in these f**k babysitters who often know jack shit about the subject and tray you like you are in 9th grade instead of an adult.
I wrote a letter to my Dean about this after a particularly awful teacher (who taught f**k middle school until she got her PhD) and got an opportunity to speak to him about it and he pretty much told me at least within my college, the impetus for this is parents. He didn't think they were effective teachers and it sounded like he had plenty of complains, but there was pressure from parents who think teachers should be your parents intend of just your teacher. They blame the college when little jonny gets hammered and ends up in the hospital and critique the lecture and leave professors for not mentoring etc etc. It's stupid but it sounds like it actually does create problems for administration.
