I'm of the opinion that if you are in university, you should be focusing on a narrow discipline, with the goal of becoming an expert in a particular field of study.

Forcing me to spend hours every week studying something that is not only useless to me, but actually harms my ability to focus on what I am there for, seems pointless.

Logic was a requirement for my major but outside of that it just meets the critical thinking requirement. Tbh I think everyone should take it. Phil 100 or whatever is useless and doesn't teach any sort of critical anything but logic really puts the brain to use when you start getting really complicated arguments.

I'm not opposed to certain cross-discipline courses being mandatory, especially when they have a use for anyone. My comp-sci class frustrated me because it was very basic but time-consuming. Earth geology was pointless because it doesn't benefit me at all.

Whereas logic classes and maybe some basic comp-sci is knowledge that can be used in any discipline. So I suppose I can see some us for general classes, but I think they need to be limited to knowledge that is useful regardless of discipline.
