It's interesting - if you neglect consideration of how many men will be victims of violence and sexual assault. I'm sure it's more alarming - except for the fact it's men as the victims and not women or children.

I'm very passionate about equality and freedom for all people. I don't really see why I would need to join a women's group for that.

baby steps. You just find things you can tackle, and start there. But preference for one gender over another is inherently sexist.

Also, the majority of feminists are opposed to addressing mens issues, and actually go out of their way to suppress speakers, authors and activists. It isn't that they think their issues are more important - it is that they think that mens rights is the patriarchy reasserting itself.
So I don't see how focusing on womens issues and mens issues separately could possibly work.
