Nebulous things like "prestige" aside, let's look at the money.

UT will probably (and definitely COULD) pay their next coach $6m/yr. Saban is making $5.3m/yr now, and I would not be at all surprised if Texas tops that for a coach. They want the best, and can afford it.

So, let's say they pay $6m/yr. That's more than all but the top 10 NFL coaches make in a year.

However, that's $500k LESS than Kelly is making at the Eagles. Frankly, I have a hard time believing that he would leave NFL for less pay in college.

They can offer more than 6 million. If they want a guy bad enough they could offer as much as 10.

I don't think that's going to drive Kelly's decision though. He's not married and has no kids. He doesn't have a family to take care of, he lives for football, so I think he'll make his choice based on where he wants to be, not money.

If the coach is coming from the NFL, ala Mr. Kelly.. UT will definitely pay more than $6 mil a year.

Kelly, like Pete Carroll, left their respective NCAA programs for a reason. By left, I mean they got out before a shitstorm landed on their head.

Yeah I really don't think Kelly is gonna go.

As I already said, I don't think he cares about getting a little bit more dough when he's already making over 6 million with the Eagles, if they even would offer him more. Second, he seems to be enjoying the NFL. Third, despite what Eric thinks, being an NFL coach is a bigger deal of you look good doing it. Maybe not in certain parts of the south, but everywhere else.

I think it's a 50-50 chance right now.. Obviously there's more prestige being an NFL coach, the NFL is the major leagues..

But lets face it, all of sports are just a business now.. 99% of athletes and coaches/managers etc do what the do and go where they go because of the money they can get... If UT offers him a 5 year $40-$50 mil contract, or something like that.. He's gone..

Of course I 'think' UT will also have to buy out his current Eagles contract.. So the total amount we're talking is big bucks.

Lots of relevant games to keep an eye on today. If the redskins beat the cowboys, eagles can wrap it up tonight by beating the bears. If not it will all come down to week 17 in Dallas regardless of what happens tonight. Meanwhile, will be monitoring that Saints Panthers game. Eagles will host a wild card team if they take the division and right now I'll take my chances to beat the Saints in Philly, so I'm hoping the panthers knock the saints into the wild card.

Football is so popular right now it can't do anything wrong.. But in the long run, it may start to have problems.. Every single week there's seems to be more and more games like the one I am stuck watching.. The QB play is brutally bad. Except for the obvious good veteran QB's, and Luck and Wilson,(Jury is still out on Newton and Kapernick) these other QB's are awful.. Week after week the Jet QB's not only suck, but in most weeks the team they are playing the QB sucks... Today I'm flipping to other channels watching Christmas movies I've already seen instead of watching this disaster.. Wide open receivers these QB miss.. 3rd and 5 and the offense runs the ball because they don't trust the QB to throw the ball..
