The entire concept of "childhood" itself is entirely subjective and is a cultural characteristic that the majority of the human race simply doesn't share.
So the "science" of studying childhood development has about as much basis as astrology does. It's thinking that supports a cultural grounded belief and nothing more.

There has to be a line.. And age is probably the best line to use..
I don't think we want to have the courts, lawyers, doctors, whoever making the decisions on whether this 14 YO is mature enough to have consensual sex, but that 14 YO isn't.. That'd be a nightmare.
In any civilization to got to have lines, you got to have some hard and fast rules. On this issue, and others it'd be impossible to judge each individual case.
