Spider, you don't seem to understand that you can claim it's not about you trying to protect women all you want and it doesn't change the content of what you have expressing as your thinking here. You literally want the state to "protect" women from the consequences of their own decisions, apparently because you believe they cannot assert their own rights and need the white, male authority of the state to help. That is patriarchy by definition, and instead of solving the problems you think solves it merely perpetuates the social conditions that led to the issues you want solved in the first place.

I've explained this over and over and still you guys persist in cowardly trying to project the intellectual and ethical shortcomings of your own cultural beliefs onto individuals who question the legitimacy of the middle class belief system instead of facing the glaring ethical problems your own belief system has created.

i know you guys like to bag on dharma. i mean, who doesn't? but for once he's actually right. or at least, in spirit he is.

there are conflicting rights, but we decide that a woman is punished if she chooses to not get an abortion, yet a man is being selfish if he chooses to not support a child he never wanted, and vice versa if the choices are switched.

you can argue from a social engineering standpoint that being able to walk away from a child is bad, and that's perfectly acceptable as far as a position is concerned. but to argue that it is fair, in a logically consistent manner, is a retarded argument. it just doesn't hold up. abandon it.

Yes, it is unfair that men have the same legal and financial responsibilities as women once a child is born. It is unfair that women can make a decision without a man's input just because it is her body.

also, let's be real here. does a five year old care that his dad sends him and his mom money every month? or does he care that he doesn't have a dad to go play catch with and do other father-son things with? it's the latter, since last i was aware children aren't involved or care about family finances. if this was about what's best for the child, then we would be arguing something like mandatory visitation.

but let's face it, the idea of child support is only to partially support the child. it always has been. my brother has to pay 1500 a month in child support. what 3 year old do you know that goes through that in a month? none. it's to support the mother as well. and it always has been about supporting the mother. it stems from the idea that women need financial support because they need a man in their life to bring home the bacon. so let's stop the sanctimonious "IT'S FOR THE CHILDREN!!!!" act.
