it's not a matter of having larger guns, it's a matter of the type of munitions used, the clip size of the magazine, the accuracy of the shell, and the rate of fire.

protip for you: rocket artillery isn't very accurate, it isn't very fast, and it isn't particularly devastating. the same applies to their regular artillery. sure they'll damage seoul. they aren't going to melt it down. saying goofy things like that shows your complete ignorance of military hardware, logistics, and strategy. it took months and YEARS of bombing cities in ww2 with larger munitions to level even parts of them, and that was with older buildings that were destroyed easier, and caught on fire easier. protip: high explosive shells haven't evolved much, especially for the north koreans. they would lose most of that artillery within in the first day or two of using it. in that time, they would be lucky to cause irreparable damage to anything.

I think it's disingenuous to wave away the threat the NK poses in an initial attack. Yes if they went full out the US and SK would make somewhat quick work of them with their outdated equipment...but the sheer size of the NK army and artillery is nothing to laugh at. A barrage of hundreds of thousands of rounds on Seoul would be devastating. I don't know really whether or not Seoul would be flattened, but it would sustain severe damage in large areas and the entire population would need to be mobilized into the shelters. Most US troops stationed around Seoul and the DMZ would more than likely be sent back in body bags.

Imagine all the sleeper agents and infiltrators Nk already has planted. And re-imagine a tunnel system like the VC had.

Are they going to use their large inventory of chem and bio agents if pushed far enough? How about a nice small nuke?

There are just too many variables and too large a foe no matter how financially crippled. An attack on the NK short of nuking them ourselves would not be pretty.

you're aware that all 18,000 of those guns aren't set up, right? that a lot of those ones in the caves are the ones we're talking about as being old, obsolete, and broken down?

but sure, if you combine the entire US military, i'm sure we can rain over a million shells an hour onto north korea. we just need to ignore the inconvenient logistics of it all.

Even conservative estimates of a mere 10,000 shells coming down per hour is enough to do some serious damage.

I get your point that the Nk is nothing compared to a US/SK/NATO onslaught. But before the smoke clears there could be very considerable damage done to our assets and personnel. I don't see the elites of that regime caving in and running off to exile. They will use all they have if backed into a corner.

All I'm saying is the scenario is too dangerous and potentially disastrous to make casual and wanton judgments on our capability to take them initially.

I certainly wouldn't want to be on the ground there when the shit hit the fan.
