Most college degrees are completely useless. A GED is a f**k waste of time and money.

What real world effect do you think a GED is going to have on these peoples lives? Absolutely nothing, that's what.

The fact that you think it will solve their problems shows you have no idea whatsoever how to deal with these kind of people or why they are the way they are. Shows pretty much why our prison system is a complete disaster. We waste time on petty bullshit solutions instead of taking on the real problems.

In your world if only everyone followed the rules everything will be OK. Not everyone lives in that type of environment, though. Some people are sexually abused from infancy, grow up in a crack house, or even just live on the streets. A GED won't even get you job, how is it possibly going to be an effective rehab tool for someone with this type of background.?

A high school diploma says "hey, I can do the same thing everyone else can"
A GED says "I cant even handle the norm, but I did try"
While no diploma says "I am an idiot, not even willing to spend a few weeks learning absurdly basic things"


So yeah, help them get a GED, but dont stop there. The world needs more plumbers or something. Use BLS stats to find careers that are in demand, train the poor and criminals with the skills for them.

I think about the best thing they could do to keep former prisoners out of trouble in the future is forcibly relocate them, keep them from falling back into old habits and all that.
