Well, considering that the Roman Empire lasted roughly 1500 years in some form or other, I'd be VERY happy if the US was exactly like them. Has any other single political entity in human history exerted so much influence on the world stage for so long?

world dominance is a modern creation. but if we're discussing regional dominance then rome had a solid 800ish years. pretty good run. though i'd like to avoid the 500 years of byzantine decline.
i'd rather we were like china though. through ups and downs, runnning strong for almost 3000 years.

as far as longevity, yeah. they were mostly a domestic trainwreck combined with constantly losing territory and wars. i don't envy them.
