I like your distinction between personal and legislative. But I think the personal point is just wrong. We take this whole notion of responsibility for granted. We assume everyone is a responsible gun owners, until they aren't. Lanzas mom no doubt thought herself a responsible gun owner, who took classes and training and went on to others about fostering a healthy respect for firearms in her son. 20 kids are dead, and no we know she wasn't a responsible gun owner. There are millions of people like this who claim to be responsible, but are really one tragedy away from being exposed as negligent and irresponsible gun owners.
