sometimes i don't mind the cross country trip, and even enjoy the drive, but autopilot on that thing would come in handy

cars can be redesigned for comfort -- couches facing inward, or towards more televisions. i'd imagine that some roads for a while will need human operators (the roads less traveled) but if even the interstates could be automated it would be a huge boon

yes, as it stands now, it's only new cars. however, there will come a point in the future where it will be illegal to have a car with only a human operator available to it, no doubt, but that's decades from now

I'm not sure why you guys are doubting the technology. Google has shown it can work pretty well already and I'm sure within the decade it will get to the point where it's road ready and safer than actual drivers. Cost ALWAYS comes down.

I for one would happily pay 100k for a driverless car, as opposed to say 30 for one i have to drive everywhere myself. Not enough people love driving to justify separate lanes and the like. Sure there will be a transition period but professor is in a fantasy world if he thinks 95% of drivers don't LOVE the idea of a driverless car and never driving again.
