It's true that Snowden has nothing to gain by going to trial. Neither does any clear cut guilty criminal. Anyone confirm ably guilty of rape, murder, espionage or any other major felony would be better of never getting apprehended.

Yep. Now it just depends on whether you think the particular law or set of policies is legitimate, and what practical means one could actually take to change it.

Well let's be clear about Snowden's crime. He leaked classified documents. The content of them is another matter, and one I think needs to be addressed; what those docs revealed is something that seriously needs to be reigned in.

The question is: should anyone with access to classified docs be able to go "OMG, PEOPLE NEED TO SEE THIS" and then leak the docs? I say no.

Those examples are ridiculous. Edward Snowden did not put any lives at risk, for one. For two, he swore an oath to the Constitution - by exposing these crimes, he has upheld his oath. For three, there is no mechanism in place for him to reveal this information legally. He had no choice.

He is a hero, a living embodiment of the principles of the American Constitution, and ought to be given a full pardon and appointed as a civilian overseer of the US spy program.

If you wanna be a hero and leak documents to show the people all the evil things the government is doing, then man up and serve your sentence for committing espionage. Did Martin Luther King run and hide when the cops came to arrest him for a sit in?
