One thign I thought of: I wonder how people will react when the first crashes occur? It's to be expected with any new technology, but I'm guessing that it will be viewed very negatively and possibly delay the transition even if the system overall reduces car deaths.

My favorite thing about folks like gremlin is that they are so public about how we live in a dictatorship. The very act of speaking so strongly against the government proves the statement wrong.

Go to North Korea and criticize the government actively on publicly available forums. In a few days you'll see what an actual dictatorship looks like.

I don't see why there cant be people manually driving their cars and automated cars at the same time. The google car manages fine with real drivers on the road.

I have said this before but I will say it again, if automated cars become affordable then there likely won't be the need for individual ownership of cars, an automated taxi service could handle transportation much more efficiently than how we currently do it. Currently everyone owns a car that is sitting unused for 20 hours of the day.
