Discrimination in the name of religious freedom

Can we cut to the chase and agree that "religious freedom" has been used as a blank check for discrimination for ages now?

Example:


"The f***ing Canadian men's hockey team blows. Jesus even said so. Cheer for Canadian hockey, and you hate Jesus."

As far as private industries go, I'd rather people have the option to deny services to people or groups of people they don't want to do business with. I much prefer the bigots, racists and sexists that own businesses in the US put their real feelings on front street so that I and others who are more progressive know where not to spend our money. Forcing people to do business with groups they despise helps keep their bigotry hidden and away from the public. So you could potentially by baked goods from a racist baker for years and never know it. When it comes to government employees, then no, they work for the government and the government has to be as neutral as possible.

This has nothing to do with religious liberty. Nobody is being denied their faith, nobody is being forced to participate in a ceremony they disagree with, nobody is being forced to endorse something they think is immoral.

Until you can tell me how providing a product or service is participation, outside very narrow exceptions (like a minister), this has nothing to do with religious liberty.
