There really isn't much we can do to prevent him from doing what he wants. We can't start a war with him, he knows it. Even if we get an international condemning of his actions it won't mean shit. We can't put troops in there, we can't start a war and international sanctions won't have much effect in the near term that will stop his advancements. This is a golden opportunity for him because we can only sit back and watch.

obliterating or routing 200,000 soldiers in crimea and sinking most of their warm water fleet would pretty much be considered a war-ending defeat for the ruskies. we don't need to march on moscow.

also, something fun we could do is kick russia out of the G8 and go back to treating them like a third world shitpile.

it sounds trivial, but it would make them super angry. they fought rurle hard to get into the G8 against everyone's better judgement.

I'm not anything close to a nationalist, but there's still a little American left in me to wonder, if this is what being a "global" hegemon is, what's the use picking on third world countries when they can't even take on the big boys.

edit: i'm getting closer and closer to the idea that a war between great powers isn't necessarily going to lead to nuclear war...perhaps we've talked up deterrence a bit too much?
