Basically, I got subpoenaed because a scumbag was stealing from the family business I used to work at, and I was the shift manager working when we reviewed the tapes and saw him do it. The owners asked me to call the cops, so I did, handed over the video tape, and that's the end of it. Until like eight months later when I get a subpoena that says I have to testify to the matter. I had quit that job and gone back to the farm by this point, so I also had to take a day off work to be there.
Once I get there, the scumbags lawyer made me walk him through the tape, step by step, while continuously inferring that the scumbag had never been trained properly, and he wasn't pocketing that money, he was just getting bills out from tips he had put in earlier, but for some reason had neglected to take. How was he to know store policy on tips (after working there for three years)? It was a clear bunch of shit - the video of the guy was him taking wads of cash from the till between serving customers, and just stuffing it into his pockets
The PD was just doing his job, trying to raise some doubt, but it pissed me off that I was missing out on money, then being forced to sit there and justify the decisions I made at my McJob. And the son of a bitch was enjoying himself, I know it. It was like The Comrade had manifested into a PD's body. The delight was impossible to miss.
