my worry is that we'll form huge regional power blocs like the AU, the EU, etc and then we'll just have five or six gigantic powers incapable of working together but also incapable of ever subsuming the other. so instead of uniting the world we'll just create a few very large tribes.

EU needs to apply more federalist ideas if they're to be an actual power. right now they're like the original american confederation: weak and unable to establish themselves.
not sure the AU will happen soon. nigeria, kenya, and south africa have all basically shunned the idea and they're basically the economic blocs of africa.
