Have we won the War on Terrorism?

I wasn't criticizing Bush/Cheney to suggest Obama's doing a bang-up job--after all, we are STILL in Afghanistan yet not one person can tell us why.

What's also staggering is the amount of money we've spent on Iraq/Afghanistan--and how much of that has gone unaccounted for--yet we continue to slash domestic spending and things like food stamps while telling poor people to simply stop being poor.

So what if the Afghanistan gov't fell? What does that have to do with us? We let it fall in the 90s to the Taliban. In fact, once the Soviets were out we really didn't give a toss about Afghanistan.

Agree with the points above, we should leave and let things sort themselves out. However that doesn't take away from the fact that our presence in Afghanistan allows us to prevent another terrorist friendly regime there from forming as well as provides us with bases in a country immediately adjacent to both Pakistan and Iran.

This one again? So we invaded Afghanistan because we knew it had the side benefit of having a "base" close to China or Iran?

Since when do we excuse failed invasions and occupations and nation-building because well, er, I guess if nothin' else we got a base there, yep?
