Is Porn a Legitimate Career Choice?

Recently there have been a lot of talk about the Duke Freshman who did porn to pay for her school. A lot of people are either disgusted or tried to help her quit. Either way they see porn as a negative things. However, she claims that it's empowering and that she does not feel exploited. So my questions to you are.
1) Is doing porn to pay for college something that should be frowned upon?
2) Would you be ok if your daughter did it?
3) Is porn a legitimate career choice. Compared to modeling or more respectable fields such as Wall Street or Politics.

1) Maybe, by doing porn you are isolating yourself from a lot of careers and people who think it is morally wrong but for those who don't have to worry about social stigma, or your parents social stigma than sure
2) I would highly discourage it and be unhappy
3) what makes a career choice legitimate vs illegitimate? It is legal.

Well she's not confused if she's a financial conservative.. but aligning yourself with one of the two major parties shows you to be confused to a certain extent regadless.

Also remember that while it's harder to do it, it is possible to convert capital from certain undesirable careers into more general success. I always think of Sunny Leone for example who is now a Bollywood star.



Porn star or not, I consider her perhaps the most beautiful woman in the world. Also it's not unheard of that courtesans, prostitutes, etc. can have high cultural capital depending on the society and historical context. Anyone seen Firefly? Think Inarra.

I mean even to be a major porn star in modern America you have to have entrepreneurial skills in order to develop your "brand." The whole stigma thing is stupid and doesn't help anyone.

There are different...magnitudes...of porn. Most of it, fine whatever. But there is some sick shit out there that I can't imagine anyone going through and having even the slightest shred of self respect left on the other side. That's just messed up. Its not a career choice to do that to oneself. Its self destruction and possibly mental illness.
