The man was obviously mentally ill, so no reason to hate him. Let him fade into obscurity and hope his church goes along with him.

He wasn't "just" hateful. Everything he and the WBC was more than visceral hateful reaction to the world around them. It was all a premeditated and intentional effort to be as offensive and hurtful to innocent people as possible while staying within the law. Infuriating and devastating people, and particularly kicking people when they were down, was their whole formula. That's why I say what this guys death really deserves is nothing but apathy.
