The most interesting part of this is that poverty and violence are so strongly correlated. Simply by focusing on poverty, you'll also be making gains against violence. And so, so much of the violence we see day-to-day is a direct result of bad laws. The War on Drugs being a prime example. Or the criminalization of sex work. Or child sex laws that drive pedophilia underground instead of mandating compassionate care and effective coping strategies, using modern medicine and therapy in conjunction with one another.
I find the point of view that these things can't be helped incredibly frustrating, not to mention illogical and unsubstantiated. I don't disagree that some poverty and some violence is innate, that it cannot be solved, but that is mostly due to mental illness or being programmed by an awful social situation (growing up in the ghetto and behaving violently is sometimes more rational than not acting like that, for instance).
