A few of my elementary school teachers recommended that I join the scouts. I joined CAP and JROTC instead because I wanted more intense training than what the scouts offered. And I would rather be called a cadet than a scout.

They're different in what they do. But in terms of how they are looked at by the rest of society they are pretty similar.

In the U.S. JROTC is stereotyped as something lower income students do although you can find some JROTC programs located in affluent areas. In the UK you can find the Combined Cadet Force in a lot of prestigious private boarding schools. I wish JROTC would expand into more affluent areas.

No, not really. They offer different activities. The scouts are good for people that want to go exploring, walking, climbing etc.

Cadets are more about trying to be like a small military regiment.

Obviously there's some crossover but they're fundamentally different in what they do.

Ccf in schools is a joke when made compulsory in schools (private included) as most the students simply don't want to be there.

It almost seems like you want the old Prussian military elite system imported to America, but for high school kids.
