i suppose littlefinger's play was to cause strife and hope for war so he could pick up the pieces after unleashing chaos. it's difficult to call that much of a plan, but perhaps, as overall strategy, it can work. obviously does, as he is now lord of the vale, in title of harrenhall, and holds (as he see it) the key to the north

baelish had him killed because he was close to discovering the truth about joffrey. robert was a fool, joffrey an insecure twat, and cersei easily read. those are knowns he could deal with and planned on dealing with. a new alliance, a new wife, a new power bloc, and scariest of all for baelish, stannis being the heir (and possibly king if robert can't get it up)to westeros, were variables he didn't want to deal with/couldn't deal with.

also, baelish's end game, as i forsee it, is to unite the vale, the riverlands, and the north by marrying sansa to the heir of the vale, putting sansa or her children in winterfell, and him ruling over the riverlands. the riverlands being the wealthiest and most powerful of all three of those regions, he'll likely be king, but he'll hold tremendous sway over the vale and the north due to sansa.

I don't think baelish ever had every tiny little piece mapped out specifically, because he's not an idiot and only an idiot would craft a detailed plan with tons of moving parts you don't control and requiring everything to go right in order for any of it to work. But I think he comrades analysis is basically right. All I'd say is that I envision each step of his plan being followed by re-evaluation and adjustments. I think anyone hoping that he'll one day reveal a plan that he knew all along would bring him to his later fate will be disappointed.

I was really hoping oberyn was the one that killed joffery. That would have been supremely alpha after his convo with cersei. The dornish seem pretty chill and fratty so far
