It's a shame. There should be a department within every sizable police department that is solely responsible for policing the police. They shouldn't fraternize with the beat cops, and in fact should probably be feared and reviled by the regular police force, in order to remain impartial and separate. We could call then the "In-House Police". Or, "Internal Investigations". Or, "Internal Affairs". Yeah, that's it - that's a good name.
Look, all sarcasm aside, I get what you're saying. It's true that cops don't like to tattle on other cops. And, doing so is a great way to torpedo one's own career. But, it is any different in the business world? Are whistleblowers being inundated with job offers? Not saying that it's right, but it happens in every industry - a snitch gets put out in the cold.
