The US acquired that land via treaty. As far as I know that makes it federal land. What specific act are you referring to that provides for the grant of land to users in an instance such as this?

Adverse possession works a bit differently west of the Mississippi too for as Dylan pointed out a lot of law was grandfathered in on these states when they became states, including federal ownership of land and water rights and junk.

I think the Nevada constitutikn, ironically, explicitly foreclosed many of Bundy's arguments.
Like a fundy Christian though, Bundy is good at ignoring parts he doesn't like.

since Bundy's whole thing is he's be f**k with federal authorities could the feds just get a favor from the Nevada state police? takes some of the wind out of his sails.
