I have always been surrounded by my peers - just not the ones who decided to go $100k in debt for a philosophy degree.
But seriously, I think the biggest problem with our generation is that we have been too caught up in blaming others for our lack of success. The simple truth is that nobody is having an easy time - not the Boomers, not Generation X, no one. And yet we are, by far, the best equipped to handle this shit. We have the highest level of education in history. We have, for the most part, moved past all the bullshit social stigmas of the past - how we view money, sex, marriage, race, gender, all that stuff is so different than our parents. And we also have a really unique perspective - we saw the rise of the internet. We saw 9/11. We fought in Afghanistan and Iraq. We saw what happens when you let corporate greed take over. I think this generation is going to do absolutely incredible things, so long as it abandons this idea of having been wronged, and starts getting to work making the changes we want to see.
Which brings me back to why it is so irritating to see Millenials go after Boomers. They created this for us. The world is f**k FULL of opportunity right now, it's just that we wanted to take the "path of least resistance," to borrow a phrase, and the reality of what it takes to succeed IRL has demolished our face. So now is the time to learn and make things better for future generations, using our incredibly unique perspective and experiences, not blame our parents for doing the best they could. Nothing more pathetic than people fighting over crumbs - of any generation, Millenials should understand that best.
