Wait, so this woman was actually encouraging kids to play ball out on a street in which motorists could be driving without knowing that children could suddenly dart out in front of them chasing a ball??? And, you are pissed at the cops who put a stop to it before a child got smacked and a motorist had to deal with the trauma of having hit a kid??? Ya know, she could have put just a little more thought into providing for them. Like finding a SAFE area for the kids to play rather than just dropping a hoop on them, patting herself on the back and applying for sainthood.

i don't see what the issue is. i played all sorts of games in the street and while i live in a small town, my block is situated between the connecting road of a county route/highway and the busiest street in town which always has traffic. i even had a basketball hoop near the road. no dead kids, no accidents.

cops went overboard here.

The way I see it, the job of the officer in this scenario is to pull over, go over to the kids, and make sure that they are being safe and paying attention to traffic. Then maybe talk to the parents and have a chat, let them know you'll have to shut it down if you see some sort of evidence of irresponsibility. It'll take all of ten minutes and it establishes positive relationships with the community while minimizing the already small risk. Hell, maybe even talk to the road department and get a kids at play sign.

Neighborhoods are for living, driving should be a secondary concern.
